Ms C M – Educational Psychologist

I have been working in the field of psychological assessment and intervention with children and adults since 1993. Prior to this I worked in a variety of roles with children and young people with special needs.

In addition to my role offering independent psychological assessment and advice, I work within the fields of clinical psychology, organizational consultancy and as a Registered Intermediary with the Home Office, facilitating accurate communication between vulnerable witnesses and the Criminal Justice System.

As a chartered psychologist I work therapeutically with children and families across the ability spectrum including those with specific disorders such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), generalised learning disabilities, (e.g. Down’s Syndrome), specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia) and speech and language disorders, with my clinical practice being influenced by systemic family therapy.

I have also worked extensively with adults with a variety of difficulties including those with mental health problems and / or a learning disability. This work has also involved parenting assessments, and parental / carer skills training, support and consultancy.

I have a broad spectrum of experiences with children in need, at risk and in Looked After Provision. This varies from working residentially in a therapeutic community for children with severe emotional and behavioural difficulties to working clinically either within the NHS or via the Family Courts with children and families involved in care proceedings. I have supported, trained and offered consultancy to professional carers in a number of environments including children’s homes, and both short and long term specialist / non specialist foster placements.

Since becoming a Chartered Psychologist I have prepared over 400 formal psychological reports, with some of these being specifically for different purposes. Furthermore I have experience of giving evidence to the Family Courts. Areas of assessment and report writing experience include:

1 Attachment
2 Family Functioning
3 Intellectual Ability and / or Social and Adaptive Functioning
4 Offending Behaviour
5 Parenting – including impact of a learning disability / mental health issue ASD
6 Trauma / Personal Injury
7 Dyslexia

I am a Registered Psychologist with PSI and the BPS. I have full membership for the Division of Educational Psychology PSI and I am an Associate Fellow with the BPS. I am also a registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
