When you join us as an associate EP, you gain a dedicated team handling the operational side of your work on your behalf.

That includes support from our dedicated Education Coordinators who arrange assessments, gather documentation, manage referrals and matching cases to your skills, availability, and geography. It includes instruction and fee handling directly with clients, so you are not fielding awkward conversations about rates. It includes proofreading support on reports, invoice chasing and a guaranteed payment timeline, so you are not waiting indefinitely to be paid for work already done. 

For Educational Psychologists, payment is guaranteed on an arranged schedule. Even where our own payments from clients are delayed, we absorb that delay so you are not left out of pocket.

What The Work is Like

We work with school groups, Multi-Academy Trusts, and Local Authorities across England, and our EP caseload covers a range of work.

At the core is statutory assessment: EHCP assessments commissioned by Local Authorities, where your work directly contributes to securing the right provision for children and young people. Beyond statutory work, we are increasingly involved in project-based and systemic work alongside MAT and LA partnerships, which offers EP associates a varied and interesting caseload.

You tell us your availability and the geographic area you are willing to cover and we match cases to you. There is no obligation to accept any referral, and you are completely free to decline any case that does not work for you. 

To support your work, associates have access to our dedicated secure portal and dashboard giving you an IT system to work from. 

We are particularly looking for EPs available for face-to-face as we’ve seen a significant rise in demand for face-to-face assessments from Local Authorities, schools, and families.

Whether you need a sounding board on a complex case or support with a specific aspect of your work, our SEP team is there. They’re also here to act as a buffer between you and clients where needed, supporting your professional judgement and position.

Your autonomy as a qualified professional matters to us, and we’re here to help maintain that. That includes safeguarding support – if a concern arises in the course of your work, you will have a team around you to navigate it properly rather than having to manage it alone. 

We also offer CPD sessions and a podcast for our associate network, keeping you connected to current thinking, evidence-based practice, and the broader professional community. For EPs working independently, this kind of structured development opportunity is not always easy to access elsewhere.

What We Are Looking For

To join Psychology Direct as an associate Educational Psychologist, you will need:

• A current enhanced DBS certificate 
• Post-qualification experience working with children and young people in educational contexts
• HCPC registration as a qualified Educational Psychologist
• The ability to carry out face-to-face assessments
