How Partnering with Psychology Direct Works for Associates

As a dedicated psychologist or psychiatrist, your passion lies in assessment, insight, and making a real difference. But often, the reality of independent practice can involve a surprising amount of administrative burden, chasing referrals, negotiating fees, managing paperwork, and even battling for payment.

That’s why we’ve built our service around a core belief: associates should be free to focus on the vital work of assessing, while we handle the rest. We aim to take control of the bureaucracy and administration, allowing you to genuinely get on with what you do best.

If you’re seeking to streamline your professional life, gain access to varied and impactful work, and join a supportive network, here’s an insight into how to partner with Psychology Direct  and the unique benefits we offer.

Why Partner with Psychology Direct?

When you choose to become a Psychology Direct Associate, you’re not just joining a list; you’re gaining a partner committed to your professional ease.

Here are some of the key benefits our associates value:

  • A regular flow of referrals as one of the leading providers of psychological services in the UK, we maintain strong relationships with major clients, including top-tier legal firms, alongside bodies such as the Crown Prosecution Service (including CPS London) and in our Education department we work with various schools, multi-academy trust (MATs) and local authorities.
  • Our dedicated support team handles the bureaucracy and administration on your behalf, significantly saving you time and money.
  • You receive enquiries that are specifically matched to your skills, experience, and expressed availability.
  • We manage all instruction and fee negotiation directly with clients on your behalf.
  • Our service includes essential proofreading of reports, ensuring high standards are consistently met.
  • Reduced DNA (Did Not Attend) rates. We work proactively to minimise missed appointments, respecting your valuable time.
  • We guarantee payment for work produced, even if our own invoices are delayed.
  • We continuously advertise our services nationally and regionally, generating a constant flow of varied work for our network.

Our associates consistently highlight the ease of working with our team. As one associate shared what attracted them to become a Psychology Direct associate:

‘Communication with the PD team and support as needed, having a clearly defined SLA document.’

This proactive support ensures you can focus on your core work, knowing the logistics are handled.

Finding Your Ideal Work

Our extensive client base ensures a constant flow of diverse cases across various legal and educational sectors:

  • Expert Witness Department: We offer varied work in Criminal, Family, Immigration, Criminal Negligence, and Personal Injury cases. We pride ourselves on having experts with niche areas of expertise in our database, covering highly specific areas such as automatism or complex immigration cases, ensuring truly focused and specialist posts.
  • Education Department: We partner with various schools, MATs and Local Authorities across the UK, providing a range of services from EHCP assessments to broader educational psychology support.

As a Psychology Direct associate, you receive enquiries based on your expressed availability and timescales. There’s no onus to undertake work, and you are completely free to accept or decline being put forward. It’s truly your choice, allowing you to fit work around your life.

Many associates are drawn to our diverse projects and the genuine support offered. When asked what attracted them to multi-academy trust work with Psychology Direct, our associates highlighted:

‘Distance to home and being able to link with Senior EPs as well as the resources available through PD (e.g. proofing, conferences etc).’

‘The distance from home and the fact mileage and expenses were covered – makes it more financially viable for me.’

Streamlining Assessments & Ensuring Fair Payment

We act as the conduit between you and clients, ensuring smooth coordination.

  • We proactively work with your availability for assessments. While assessments typically occur during standard 9:00 – 17:00 working week hours, we can also arrange cases outside of these hours if you have clinic availability. Our goal is to offer cases suitable to your working life. You offer us your assessment times, and our next email back is typically a confirmation that it’s going ahead – no more endless chasing!
  • We prepare transparent and reasonable quotes, aligned with both client and your fee expectations. We understand that solicitors can often underestimate reading volumes (e.g., 100 quoted pages becoming 500 at instruction). It’s our job to identify these discrepancies, inform you, and chase solicitors to grant additional funding for extra pages. This guarantees payment for all work done.

Our Payment Guarantee

We believe you should be paid for your invaluable work without delay. Psychology Direct guarantees payment to our experts that work for you:
For Educational Psychologists: Payment within 30 days of report submission.
For Expert Witness professionals: Payment within 90 days (3 months) of report filing. Even if our own payments from magistrates’ courts (who cannot pay until cases are complete) or Crown Court cases (where solicitors aren’t obliged to pay until later) are delayed.

We have dedicated staff to manage invoice chasing, saving you considerable time and effort.
